Istanbul Marathon 2014
The Istanbul Marathon (full name Vodafone Istanbul Marathon (Turkish:İstanbul Avrasya Maratonu) is an international athletics event organized by the metropolitan municipality in Istanbul,Turkey, every year on a Sunday in November since 1979.
It is the only course in the world where the marathon includes two continents, Asia and Europe, in one race. The marathon starts on the Asian side of the city, shortly before the First Bosphorus Bridge, crosses the bridge giving an outstanding view of the Bosphorus and Istanbul.The finish line is between entrance gate of Blue Mosque and Egypt Obelisk.
Course record for men was set by by athlete Vincent Kiplagat (KEN) 2.10.42 in 2010 and for women by Ashu Kasim (ETH) 2.27.25 in 2010.
In 2014, around 21.000 local and foreigner athletes participated at the road race in different categories, among them wheelchair runners.
